STEERING HEAD BEARINGS

    on the bottom tree with the shaft what is the best way to remove the race from the shaft or do i?? i got the Tapered Roller Bearings for the upgrade. thanks for any help.

    Yes it does need to come off along with the races in the steering head. The only things you'll reuse are the ring nuts and cap that covers them. Did your new bearings come with new dust seals...I've heard some don't... you'll need those.

    I just replaced mine last week so its pretty fresh in my head...I used a flat screwdriver and pried each side alternately taking care not to scratch the shaft, of course. I found that raised tabs for the steering locks were strategically placed to pry against. It only took a few minutes of prying til it popped free. I've read where other people have cut it off with a dremel or chisel so there are other ways. Do a search for steering head bearings and enjoy the reading material
