i found this container in the 'trunk' area of the tail cone on my 900r when i got it home from Carl's shop. it was pretty dirty and had a partial tool kit in it so i emptied it and threw it in the dishwasher the next time we loaded it...

i couldnt for the life of me figure out how it was to be used in the tailcone so i set it on the shelf...

when i pulled the side covers off the other day to see how bad my mounting rubbers were/are i found this spot on the right side with an attached strap...

low and behold i was able to put 2 and 2 together and viola! (as kelly bundy would say instead of voila!) and look what i came up with...

as long as the side covers stay on this would be a great use for the box. i dont plan on carrying the virtually useless toolkit. the chain and lock is missing (i think that was the other occupant of the box)...

its a 1970 vintage Colt Cobra .38spl. the finish is pretty well worn so im not worried about any wear or tear on it...

yes it would be legal for me to carry it there. ive got the state's permission to exercise my 2nd amendment (US) and Art I Sect 6 (Mich) rights...

make sure you carry on a empty chamber, looks like the hammer is resting on the box
we don't want any extra drain holes in the bottom

You'd have a hard time getting to it in a hurry under there.

Of course if someone puts a gun to your head and says "Your side covers or your life!" you'd be able to deliver a big surprise!

I think it would be safe to say that a revolver was not on the list of tools that they designed the tool box to hold. I wish that your set up (not choice of tools) was available on my machines... How much easier it would be to carry a tool kit.

double action revolvers since he introduction of the Colt New Army in 1898 have been safe to carry with full cylinders. there is a rebound lever (smith and wesson term) that keeps the hammer 'retracted' until the trigger is pulled and held to the rear...

revolvers have no 'safety' other than the gray matter inside the cranial bowl of the operator...

    plaxico burress is an idiot...

I use the Big Space for the Tool Pouch and a Stanley 4-way Screwdriver.

I use the Small Space for the Rear Shock Tool and a Complete Set of Spark Plugs.

I Drilled a small set of holes in the Underseat Pan and slide the Tool I made to be able to Tweak the range of my Rev Limiter's Trim Pot without pulling the Tank.

I have an Air Compressor and a Relay in the Rear.

Rev limiter? Can you explain a bit more about that?

Your sig says '83 750 Max[im]. Is this bike with the rev limiter? If so, what is it... a mod to the TCI?

    Thanks,
    Paul

    My 900's laid-up.
I have to do Head Set Bearings and haven't got around to it because my daughters furniture was stored in the garage.
She's got a new apartment ... so, I have access to the 900.

    Rev Limiter:
    Optional Equiptment.
Dyna Ignitions Rev Limiter with Adjustable Limit Pot.
Mounted under the Tank where I can get an eyeball on it if I remove the seat.
The Pot is set to 9,750 RPM's.
At 9750 the Ignition "Pulses" to maintain 9750 and no more.
    Hooks-up to the Coils.
Requires "Dyna" Resistor Kit to work with TCI.

    Shock Tool:
Looks like "Y" with Inboard "Points on the ends.

    Compressor:
    Air Horns.
    Remote and Switched
High Tone Horns Only. (Very Loud - Life saving shrill)
