Well I started the carb cleaning project today and have already hit a snag.

Did a rough clean of the fuel bowl areas first to get rid of a lot of the gunk and whatnot...holy crap there was a LOT of whatnot in there ;-)

Anywho, next step was removing the float needle valve bodies... I could tell I was in for ride immediately as on all 4 there were some rounded corners...uh oh, better be REAL careful here!

Well, got 3 of the 4 out with little problem.

However, #2 is stuck bigger than shit and those rounded corners? Well, lets just say they got worse!

So the question here is, does anyone have a neat trick I can use to get that stripped valve out without damaging the pillars etc?

I may try an EZ-out but figured I'd pick your brains first.

Obviously it is going to be trashed so I'll end up replacing all 4 so they are all the same....sigh.

The heads of the jets look to be in the same boogered up condition so that's gonna be a battle too I fear.

Well I got it out...used the EZ out to somewhat expand the head...then filed down the edges and tapped a box end wrench on and voila! out it came.

now CHECK your threads. if one of the other ones wont easily go you can get a tab from chacal. congrats getting it out I had mangled up mixture screw and not only was it a pain in the butt to get out I had to actually rethread the bore. cool trick on expanding and filing, I'm gonna keep that one on file

Having the ability to TWEAK the Pilot Mixture Screws is vital to getting the Bike running perfectly.

Now, that you managed to get the seized Pilot Screw and others ... out; do some prevention to assure you keep them from getting stuck, again.

Carefully "Chase" the Threaded Holes with the correct BOTTOM Tap.
    Not a THROUGH Tap.
    A flat-bottomed Tap.

    Use an AntiSeize Compound
    (I wrapped mine with Teflon)

Erasers removed from Brand New Pencils and liberated from the metal band can be cut in-half and used as well-fitting Dust Covers.
Seal them with RTV or a pinch of Caulk.

Hey Rick got a question for you...

In your carb cleaning tutorial regarding the fuel bowl you outline the two jets.

    But in this sequence:

    The Lower Post:
    Smaller Jet than Main Jet.
    Wipe-off and record the number.
Pull this Jet and let it soak, over in the same bin, with his buddies!

You don't actually give us the name of it...3 of mine are stripped but I don't know what to order...help please ;-)

I think I had a MIKUNI Carb as a Visual Aid when I wrote the Carb Cleaning Piece.

Conventionally, (on this site) the FUEL Jets are referred to as:
    Main Jet
    Pilot Jet

The MAIN Fuel Jet is attached to the Center (Nozzle) Emulsion Tube.
The PILOT Fuel Jet ... (sometimes called Low-Speed Jet) is to the side of the MAIN Jet.

Either sitting atop the Pilot Fuel Passage -- (Hitachi)
    -Or-
Recessed in an Orifice Tunnel-like Opening to the Pilot Fuel Passage -- (Mikuni)

The Hitachi MAIN and PILOT Jets are similar in design.
The Mikuni MAIN and PILOT Jets are totally different.

    <+><+> MIKUNI-Type PILOT Fuel Jets <+><+>
