Oxalic acid aka wood bleach. The stuff likes to eat rust off chrome

i dont think it would, just make sure its COMPLETELY dry before you reinstall , last thing you would want is any moisture to suck up into the exhaust ports and cause more issues. But again, im just refeering to liquid in general, how well the acid will work on the pipes, have no clue, just be kinda iffy with the chrome.

The chrome is the least my worries. Cleaning the rust off the chrome is wahy I am doing this. . Already did my handlebars and air box covers. Worked like a charm. I was more worried about the baffles inside the muffler.

good question, and that im not 100% sure on it, but just depends on the material in the baffels honestly, if its a steel wool material, i think you would be ok, but if its more of a composite material, i would bet not.

Thought about a large buffing wheel and some compound and try to just buff it clean? or your wanting the inside clean as well?

I wouldn't recommend it. Any liquid that gets trapped inside will NOT be washed out. It will become trapped. Even when it's dry its trapped and will attract moisture whenever it can. Once it's damp/wet again, now you have your acid trapped inside the muffler. It WILL eat it's way out.

Suspend it over a large tub and do a wash over until the rust is gone... will take some time ( and a few beer) but should work

How about some 2000 grit wetpaper and some soapy water. Works great and only cost $4 from walmart for 4 sheets.
