....is what I shouted in the underground parking when a beastly roar came from the straght pipes protruding from under the bike. The concrete walls shook as the whole universe began to sing in unison to each twist of the wrist. Heavenly. Good inspiration for anyone out there havign starting problems. Even if you completley gut the the electronics and put them back in the caveman way. However there are those individuals that may not see things as i do, anyone know how to build mufflers or some bad a$$ looking pipes? I know one can make "cherry bomb" or glasspack ones at home with a little bit of patience, some perforated metal tubes and fibreglass. curious if anyone had experience or do i have to be the guinea pig for this one?

Huzzah! Thrilling to hear of your success! There is a link of a fellow who built his own stainless system from New Zealand. We have a link around here somewhere. Anyone remember it? (Nick or Rich will probably be around shortly to get it to you)

No, I think he's refering to this one.

Made Mine out of four inch stainless which I think would be too big for Ian's project. I can draw up a crude diagram of the internals of mine if anyone wants to know how they work.

Actually guys, Sno surprised me with the link he pulled up. I was in fact referring to the one Goon pointed out but the home built canister sounds most like what ION is looking for. Thanks for the back up fellers. Goon, haven't heard from you in a while, how are things in the land of Oz? Had a hard time explaining what that meant to my wife (she's one of those shifty-eyed feriners dontcha know. JK). I'm not sure I told her the right story so I'm going to ask a native to explain it for me. Thanks.

All good in the land of Oz, thanks Robert. A warm sunny winters day (23C)that should have me out riding, but still getting over a bit of a cold. Picture runny nose in a full face helmet. Yea, don't go there.

WHich bit didn't your wife understand? I thought Ocker lingo was easy to interpret.

As for the exhaust, I started off using some of Dave's ideas when building my muffler. Then after discussions with the guy actually building it for me (he had made a few before) we went with a straight thru baffle system that could essentially be "tuned" for noise and performance simply by drilling a few more holes in the baffle end plate. I should really pull the baffle out and take a couple of pics to show the simplicity of it.

It would be perfect for Ians project on a smaller scale.

I presume you'll be using some sort of four into one header Ian?

    Cheers

if you could be so kind as to provid those affirmentioned schematics i would appreciate it. As far as re-jetting goes not something i feel like doing, so i like the article about keeping it close to factory backpressure. That should also(unfortunately for me, fortunately for every one else) reduce the sound levels by a fair amount. I was never a fan of the stock 650 exhaust note, found it sounded very tinny( one of my first mods to the bike was drilling 4 little holes in the back of the trumpet area to get some more growl. I like the idea of the dual exhaust and may re-use half of the old system, the part that converts from 4 pipes to 2, then cut off the ugly trumpet part, and attatch something with a little cleaner look in it's place. Hmm wonder how long it'll take to get the sawsall through that. The grinder tends to make such an aweful mess.

I'll take some pics when I get home from work Ian. I'll also do some quick measurements just to give an idea of size.
    Cheers
