I just noticed that I have a crack in the swingarm of the 1982 xj650 maxim that I am riding, I do have a parts bike which I am planning on taking the swing arm off of and puting it on the good bike. My question is are there any areas that I need to be aware of before starting. Don't want to get into it and find out that I didn't take something into account.
    Thanks

As long as it is from a 650 to a 650 there should be no problem. When loosening the swingarm bolts do the right side first. It is the one that preloads the bearings. Doing it first makes the left side easier to loosen and protects the bearings.
The manual shows the use of a slide hammer to remove the final drive from the ujoint. I did not find this necessary. It is a slip joint with splines so it should just pull right off. Regrease it well before installing. do the same with the swingarm bearings. Use a good E.P. or marine grease.

Glad to hear it. Not a bad job 'eh? /And to think how many guys are riding bikes with "DRY" swingarm bearings when they can be pulled and regreased in an afternoon!
