I've got a couple quick questions I hope someone can help me out with. First, the cable driven tach on my recently purchased 1980 650 maxim has been extremesly sluggish and essentially nonfunctional since I bought the bike. I removed the cable, cleaned it, lubed it, and it still isn't working right. Any ideas? Second, the starter rebuild kit I ordered had better show up in the mail today. I read on a post somewhere to use cloth electrical tape to wrap the primary wire inside the starter, to keep it from ever shorting out, but I can't find cloth electrical tape anywhere, and I was wondering if heat shrink or liquid electrical tape would accomplish this same task, while standing up to the heat? Thanks again for the help!

    Lube bushing.
    See photo.

    OK for Liquid Tape.
Withstands the heat and far more Amps than the bike can put-out.

Dang...guess I should have lubed that when I had it torn apart to replace the burnt out tach bulb. Live and learn I guess.
