having killed the 4runner 6 months ago my xj is my only form of transport and so when an east bay soccer tournament for my daughter hit, the kids and wife headed down to concord while i put finishing touches on a batch of gumbo and thai curry at the restaurant. new tires, new chain, clean carb and fresh oil, i loaded up a bag of pistachios into a back pack and hit the road. winding down 50 through the pines to placerville, across the foothills to sacramento a decision came, stay on the hwy with the tin cans and head down 80 to richmond or crack a left onto the 5 to the 160 and straddle the delta. the decision was fairly easy to make although the sun was begining to set and i was entering uncharted territory, but im always down for an adventure. Freeport came up on the left and opened up to a 1 lane road that took me past small delta towns rich with history and bygone architecture, Locke, Courtland and Walnut Grove, fields of almond trees, grapevines on the left, wakeboarders and fisherman on the right. bike running great, sitting in top gear hanging at around 4500 rpm, silence, no cars just me and a million plus mosquitos, of which about a thousand joining me in still frame smashed against the visor. sun almost gone now as i reach antioch, visibility hampered by a visor full of mosquitos, i took a swipe at it with the sleeve of my right arm. bad idea, now hurttling down the road with a smear of dead bugs and a sleeve of mossie carcasses i had to pull over and wash it off in a bathroom at the antioch del taco. onto the 4 to the 80 richmond coming up fast. tommorow soccer. then do it again back home. ahhh !

Sounds like fun to me! Almost need a set of 'tear aways' for your visor, like on MX bikes...
