A few weeks ago I noticed a post regarding XJ600/900 clocks and the word "Scrap" was mentioned. A hasty PM was sent and the upshot was that a regular contributor sent me - completely free of charge - a replacement tacho face. The same person has written some excellent articles on instrument overhauls and the results you can see below.

    Thank you, BigFitz!

I tarted the Speedo up with matt black paint from the model shop and used fluorescent orange on the needles.
A bit of work was required to make it fit as it is a mechanical tacho face fitted to an electronic tacho. I used a little matt black to give it the correct 10500 red line to.

I'm getting motivated again now the snow has gone AND a friend of mine has bought an XS750 and I've got to be back on the road before him. I wish I could say she will look special - but I'm overhauling rather that restoring, so she'll look pretty standard.

I HAD to do something about the tacho. At night it was virtually unreadable as the paint was so thin. All you could see was a bright yellow blob!

I have a complete gauge cluster like that with broken mounts. I'm stripping it to accomplish the mods that Fitz made on his 550 cluster. I'm having a bear of a time with the speedo, they are NOT the same (bizarre linkage) so I'm looking at selling off the assembly to recoup losses. Need any other parts?

Robert; I simply "amputated" that monstrosity of a trip odo reset mechanism and plugged the hole in the housing. (Two or three screws and it drops right off.)

I'm still working on adapting it to the old-school "spin the knob" reset; the linkage accomplished the same thing so it is possible; just not a high priority for me, so I'm running it as is for now.

Markie; Glad to see that worked for you!
