    Thankful
Today I decided to take my motorcycle for a ride. I almost didn't as I had a funny feeling about it. But I took off. I was traveling down a country road and I kept thinking about dogs. I came around a curve that went downhill and there it was looking at me in the middle of the road. A full grown Dalmatian. I am thankful that before I got my license I took a motorcycle safety course and was able to do what I could on my end but the dog walked right into the bike. I stopped and the owners were present to see everything happen. The man asked if I was ok and I looked at the dog and it was limping slightly . The man informed me I must have broke a light as an amber lens was on the road smashed. Sure enough the dog had hit my front turn signal. I am thankful to the Lord for his protection and causing me to all the sudden think of dogs before I came around the corner. I think the smartest thing next time is to not go for a ride when I have an unsettling feeling . 8)

Glad you have nothing worse than a broken turn signal lense & a limping dog. They scare the bajeebers out of me too. Glad you are okay.

Poor guys. Both of you.. Dogs out here in Pungo always jump and bark at the Spandex Commandos that ride past in packs on their ten speeds. Never at Motorcycles. Guess the noise perturbs them. But the Spandex Commandos deserve it. The litter our beautiful countryside. Should ride our horses through their neighborhoods

I very very narrrowly missed a cat this morning but I wasn't thinking of them. Glad to hear you aren't hurt did you lay it down or get it stipped during? Hopefully the Dog will be ok and maybe he will be a little spooked from being in the road. This cat bolted out I seen it coming from the yard and thought no way is it going to cross sure enough I bet I missed him by less than 6". While I didn't attend a safety course recenlty I have been riding my entire life and yes the skills they teach and you learn come in handy from time to time.

I didn't lay the bike down. I quickly got the bike straight and put the brakes on with most force applied to the rear. I started a straight slide and then let up to put my concentration on control of the front wheel and contact . The dog kept coming at me and ran right into the bike . When I got stopped I was concerned about the dog and feared the owners were somehow going to blame me. But everything turned out ok. And I just turned around and went back home . I just bought a lens off of Ebay to get it fixed .

Oh come on, I love cats, although I could never eat a whole one by myself...

My philosophy re: animals on the road is that unless they are registered with the DMV, their license plates are current, and they carry at least the state required minimum liability then they have no business being on the road. I would NEVER put myself or someone else in the least bit of peril to avoid an animal on the road. Unless of course not avoiding it would potentially place me in more peril.

I love pets but never walking on or crossing a road.
I'm glad all are safe. As for the dalmation? It has been my observation that they are far from the sharpest tool in the shed. Mighty bold statement coming from a guy with a Boston Terrier......

Well, just rode the bike for the first time since I hit the dog, or I should say the dog hit me. It's funny how leery you get after a dog does that. I figured I better get back in the saddle.

I have a neighbor who had the misfortune of a cat running from between cars and got caught up in the spokes .... result, face plant, dislocated shoulder, hospital stay, the cat actually got up and ran off ... I don't even want to eat another cat!
