I recently just purchased an '81 with 28,000 miles and wondering how long these bikes usually last? Take into consideration proper maintenance and sane driving too. I'm hoping to get a good few years of great riding out of this bike and basically wonder what you guys have to say? Thanks.

Cant speak for the 650 but I know of 2 XJ900 early 80's vintage that both have over 200,000 kms without more than normal maintenance never had the head off either one. These bikes are ridden and maintained not pampered at all.
Cant imagine the 650 would be much different after all the 900 would just be development wouldn't it.

I personally know of a couple of 650's and 750's that are over 300,000 kilometers -- with good maintenance of course...

Mine shows 46.5K miles on the odometer and still running strong.

if your neutral switch is working ok, it should start fine in neutral without the clutch pulled. check your switch.
