    Hey guys,

So I recently had to get one of those cheapie manual petcocks because mine fell apart (it was the kind with the press in connector on the bottom; connector fell out and wouldn't stay in; petcock had other unfixable problems anyway) and I'm poor(ish).

When I got the new one the first thing I did was take it apart to see how bad it was.

    It was bad.

OK so it wasn't too bad for the most part, but if you've ever taken a petcock apart you'll know that behind the lever is a face with channels in it which presses against a rubber disk. This face must seal to the rubber or else the petcock will leak.

This picture shows the rubber disk on the left and the face of the valve on the right. This isn't my petcock, just a random one I found on Google.

Well the valve face of my cheapie $8 petcock was horrid. The face was full of small pits and casting defects and had a slightly concave shape. There's no way this thing would have sealed for very long, if at all. Doesn't help that it arrived with one of the screws holding the valve together halfway out already.

So I ground the face flat and polished it, and I have to say, this might be the nicest looking polish I've ever given a part. Kinda disappointing that you can't see it without taking the petcock apart. Seals perfectly though.

Just wanted to make this post and gloat to the only people who might care :p

Also a big two thumbs up for Blue Magic polish. Seriously great stuff.
[This is not a paid promotion, just my own little story.]

    Thanks for reading!

I dunno... I polished off 3 burgers yesterday. Quite satisfying.

I could have gone in a different direction with this post. Polishing, most satisfying, I'd say a more "Matti" direction!
