What other options do I have to fine-tune the pilot screws (recessed brass screws on the top center engine side of the carb) besides the use of a exhaust gas analyzer or colortune plugs? Besides setting the vacuum, this is my last step to getting this bike running. As it currenly stands, it violently hesitates under load between 2 and 4K rpm. Thanks.

Only other thing to do is set them at 2.5 turns out and adjust from there. The colortune plug & gas analyzer are the only things that will set them acurately.

once you are in the ballpark, there shouldn't be any hardcore problems (at least that was the case on my bike) After i cleaned the carbs, I bench synced them and set the screws to 3 turns out. It didn't run perfect, but it was definitely driveable at that point. I fine tuned (and am fine tuning) from there.
