Assuming believe most of sellers story and can afford/convince wife thought on this CL listing?

Keep in mind I've already added fairing, luggage and trunk to my cramped XJ750J.

2 nd gear takes you to 80 MPH - completely different feel than an XJ
See if he fixed 2 nd gear BTW

The newer 1300's had 50% more luggage capacity.
If it looks and runs great - sounds like a deal,
How far can you get the OBO down ??

"Less than 2000 miles on rebuilt engine."

    I'd run away.

How many miles are supposedly on the bike? Those things should run a good long time before needing to be "rebuilt." Red flag.

There are a lot of them floating around in the $2K ~ $3K (or less) price range that are essentially original and would just need their maintenance caught up, like your XJ.

    Pass.

Hey Fitz! You are up on your Venture info. Been shopping for one?

If the "rebuild" means that the cases were split to repair 2nd gear then it's no big deal. That's not a "total" rebuild though.

I sold an 86 parts Venture to a guy that married the engine with V-max heads. 25K mile engine showed no sign of wear.

I checked compression on my 89 at 90K miles and it was blowing exactly brand new spec. Lots of these bikes running like new with well over 100K miles on them.

The price is reasonable for that bike in good condition. I'd want to hear a good story on why the engine was rebuilt and who did it.

Anybody who boasts about a rebuilt Plant ought to be able to show you some documentation of sorts.

    Something.

I agree with Rick. Show me some receipts.

$6ooo is an awful lot for someone to invest in one of these.

Bought my '88 in excellent condition in 2009 (before the recession took prices down). It had only 15,000 miles on it. Still wasn't anywhere near $6k.

If everything claimed is true, the asking price isn't too bad.
    Love mine a lot.
