too rich, too lean how to tell when its just right?

    im adjusting the main screw on my 1982 550
    how do i tell when it is adjusted correctly?

    The main screw? Do you mean the idle enrichment screw? There's a few screws you can be adjusting. One will adjust the mixture one will adjust the idle?

    the idle screw doesnt change the mixture. are you trying to fix your idle speed? not sure what it should be on a 550 but im sure 1200-1500rpms couldnt hurt.

    1050 is what I read here, but make sure everything else is kosher first :)

    Yeah lots of stuff to make sure is in spec before worrying about mixture on ALL 4 carbs...also don't trust the bike's tach to actually do your adjustments get a cheap electronic one from the auto parts.
