the base O-ring that fits at the base of each cylinder jugs, for my XJ650, seem to be a little big. they are orangish-red in color if you recall ever seeing them. question is am I suppose to put them in the groove before putting jugs back on or just have them around each jug and when everything is in place they will get smashed into the groove? my fear doing the later is they won't seat properly in the groove near the crankshaft...they're not overstretched by any means, its just if I take a screwdriver and walk it around the cylinder jugs eventually I get down to about 1/4" where the o-ring just refuses to stay in the groove...

big day for me. installed all new rings as well as a new piston for #1. also put new seats in my freshly lapped cylinder head, buckets are back on and nearly everything is ready to be put back on the bike. sure was a mighty expensive order from chacal but once again he had everything and shipped very fast.

also, question about gaskets. I bought "copper-spray gasket adhesive" from chacal and put it between the cylinder jugs gasket and the bottom engine portion in preparation to put the cylinder jugs on. tomorrow the cylinder jugs and head goes back on, along with cams and closing up the engine. would you suggest using this copper-spray on the head gasket as well? is it necessary? was curious if other people have used this...

You're the second guy to have a slack ring, lately.

Spraying the Head Gasket isn't necessary.
    Doing so won't hurt.

Racers put that stuff on automatically.
    It's cheap insurance.

The o-rings are doing that because you're stretching them into place without intending to. Lightly grease them, and tuck them into their grooves; do NOT depend on them getting "mashed into place."
