I have a 82 seca that had the stock rear 18 inch wheel. I am building a bobber project, so I want the 16 inch swirl wheel. Soooo.... If there is anybody buiding a cafe that wants a 18 inch rear wheel, I am ready to trade you straight up. Also, I was wondering if anybody knows if the drum from the 18 fits right in the 16 (I would think it does, but if anyone can tell me for sure I would appreciate it). Thanks, Adam

The XJ 750 and XJ 700 models had a larger brake drum than the XJ 550 and XJ 650 models, but will otherwise swap out.Your brake backing plate is too large to fit the brake drum of the 16" rim. I have a nice 16" rim off an 82 Maxim 650,complete with backing plate and shoes (can't speak for the condition of the shoes) that I would be willing to swap you for your rim,if it is in similar condition. The upside is that you get the look you want. The downside is that the rear brake will now be a bit smaller in diameter (big whoop, right?). Where are you located (zip code will suffice),so I can estimate shipping costs.

I don't have one I want to get rid of (it's on my bike!) but...the one from a 650 Maxim is a direct swap. No mods needed and it lowers the rear end about 1-1/2". The gearing is higher, but not enough to make a big difference while riding. Your gas mileage will drop a little (no biggy)
Here's my '82 Seca with the Maxim rear wheel on it:

The 650 rim is only a direct swap on to a 750 if you use the 650 brake backing plate and internals. The 650 has a backing plate that is about 8 3/8" in diameter, whereas the 750 backing plate is about another inch larger in diameter.

Sorry to disagree with you, but those external parts on my bike are from the 750 wheel. All I did was replace the 18 wheel with the 650 wheel. I am using the same backing plate/brakes, etc. You must be referring to a different model. Mine are both '82s.

PainterD; You're correct, and the diagnosis of model confusion was spot on! I was thinking about the Maxim X rear rim that I put on my '82 650 Maxim. Love the side panels on your bike, btw.
