Okay, I have an '81 XJ650 (H?) I think that I have been riding last couple days. I want wondering what the gear ratios are if anyone has that info. I only ask cause in 5th @60 I am at 6k RPM and that just sounds high to me. Don't feel like digging in to find issues considering it's my only means of transportation at the moment. The clutch feels fine, no slipping anywhere, and I do know I have shift fork/drum issues, has slipped out of 2nd twice so far. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

And I hate my phone... It's supposed to be transmission ratios as title...

That's exactly where the engine should be at 60MPH. The bikes were built during a time where acceleration was the key selling point.
You can run all day at 80 MPH with no worries.

Slipping out of second can be either due to an improper shift technique, or worn dogs. IF the dogs are worn they will need to be undercut, which means opening up the engine.
Make your shifts deliberate. Don't race to get into second.

Okay, cause I took it to 70 once so far and that was sketch at best... Sounded like the damn thing was gonna explode lol. On top of being on I75 in Detroit... That was scary lmao. But thanks, just seems nuts to me cause I am a bike wrench and this is the first bike over 400 cc that has gearing like this. Granted I'm used to working on gsxr's and HD's

My EX500 was sitting at 6k (midrange) at 55, and that had 6 gears.
Don't be worried about the sound. She won't explode; she'll just sing the song of her people.

My 750 maxims go 10 to 12 mph faster than tach in 5th gear. 5k rpm is 60 mph.

Come to think of it...the OP might have a speedometer that's reading low.

No it's reading right, that is if everyone is doing the same speed, but I am fairly sure it's accurate

If you have a smartphone you can download a free speedometer app that will track your top speed (so you don't have to put the phone into a mount while you ride).
Run up to 60 and then back off a bit, check the top speed when you get to a safe place to stop.
It's not uncommon for the magnet in the speedometer to weaken over time and make the needle lag behind the actual speed.

speedo or tach could be off. i check my speedo every time i pass a rader setup on side of road.

my 550 also reads like the 750 but when in 6th gear.

I do assume the secas with larger rear tires are a bit different with the speed and rpms

Slightly, but lower rpm for any given speed. Not enough to notice on the tach.
