    I am curious about something.
How much of a "clunk" should there be when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear?
I am experiencing more of a noise between 1st & 2nd than when shifting thru the additional gears.
I also seems to take a bit more effort on the shifter between 1st & 2nd.
When downshifting, there is more of a noise going down to 1st from a higher gear when nearing stop.
Other than that I am not experiencing any tranny problems, no clutch slipping and no gear slipping. BTW- The clutch is adjusted properly, checked that first.
    Any input would be helpful.
    Thanks

For some reason, both of my XJ's clunk when engaging 1st more so than any other gear selection. There was a thread on this issue earlier this year, might want to check the archives for it. I can not say for sure if your tranny is sound without hearing it so your best bet is to get together with some of our local XJ brothers and compare notes.
