    Hey all,

Need some advice from some of you experts. As you may or may not have been following, I have an '83 Turbo Seca that needs some tranny work. I also have an '82 normally aspirated. I just bought another turbo engine\tranny asselmbly. I suspect that this will give me the parts I need to get the Turno running, but it got me thinking about something else. Anyone have any idea just how similar the turbo and non turbo engines are? I believe i have read that the turbo engine was beefed up a bit to handle the boost from the turbo, but they sure look the same. The only differences I can see are these:

    1. carbs are different.
    2. oil line going from engine to turbo.
    3. petcock on tank is different. Non vacum on the turbo.

My regular Seca is running like a champ, but I was wondering if I might be able to use this turbo engine for spare parts for both bikes.

    Thanks,

    Greg

Easy way to check would be to go to the BikeBandit website and do an oem parts search. Have the NA Seca in one window, and the Turbo in another and see if the parts numbers are the same. Mostly the crankcases, the crankshaft, pistons and (I believe) the heads are different (stronger). Most all other parts are the same, but the camshafts are timed differently.

    Thanks Mac.

Hey, by the way, I seem to recall that you had a source for a Turbo seat cover. How has that worked out? Can you post the link to where it came from?

    Thanks,

    Greg

I have a turbo seca and a regular seca both 82 and many of the parts are interchangeable. Were you looking at specific parts? I could probably help you out. I have swapped many parts with ease for troubleshooting,

Nothing specific yet. The RJ is running like a champ. I was just curious abotu things in the long term.

Looks like we have nearly identical bikes. I have a pre YICS '82 RJ too as well as my turbo, though it's an '82.

The heads are different. Cams are different. Carbs are different. Transmission internals are common with the Maxim-X. Timing bits (sprockets, chain) are different. Crank is different too as I recall. Different pistons.

    Those are the major points.
