Background on Bike, I have a Vetter Fairing with running lights hooked up in the front, all other lights and controls are stock. The Bike has 68K on it and is a 82 750J.

Okay with that out of the way, if i'm stopped with the brake light on, and signaling for a turn, my signals will stay lit, seems if I rev the engine more they will start to flash, my question I guess would be is the flasher going, or the bike not putting out enough juice. When I return from Iraq, I plan on converting to LED if possible, just would like to figure this out before I head back after leave, I have a soldier interested in buying this bike, so if I do sell it, I would like to make sure it is all okay.

    Thanks
    Andrew

    Alternator Brushes.

They need to be 11mm long or they don't do the gig and juice making suffers and the blinkers don't work unless you rev the bike.

Pull the three Cap screws holding on the alternator cover.
    Look inside the cover.
    There's the brushes.
If there's a line still visible on the brushes they're still good.
    No line? Measure.
11mm minimum. Not 11mm ... get some new ones in there before you need a Regulator and an Alternator Rotor; too!!!

Bike isn't putting out enough umph for the relay to switch. This happens to me as well. I'll idle it up just a bit and they start flashing.

definately agree with the above posts. Also check and clean the bulb sockets. Make sure the bulbs are a 27 watt bulb. If not the above symtems will occure.

Brand new, put in 28 May 07, I'm going to check the brushes, after that, I'm finally going to replace the god forsaken fuse panel with a new one, ended up going with the same type of fuses, only buse fuse boxes I can find locally are gang set up, didn't really want to order on online.

    Soon convert to LED Lights.

well pulled the cover, i see a line on each brush, and if meassured thru the plastic, it's over 11mm if I mesure just the part showing, it's almost 11, still plenty of room till the line, I belived from the line to the base is 11, so I'd say i'm good. when i look at the rotor, the area that the brushes sit on are getting dark instead of brass looking, I started to clean them up with dremel (did I F up). after this, i'm going to check grounds

Update from several hours later...... I checked the signals, found out one was completely shot, switched it out for a spare (the front ones that aren't needed), I also replaced the Fuse Box, still have a somewhat of the same problem, not as bad, to late to really fire her up and let run (window to M. bedroom is right next to where carport is., seems if I idle at around 2k, the problem goes away, well have to see tomarrow, I think it has to do with having the running lights hooked up on my faring.

Hey Schmid! Long time no post. Drill sargents keeping you busy?
I had this problem while I was restoring my XJ. I pulled my turn signals and dissassembled them. Cleaned everything I could and this got them to flashing (where before they wouldn't) but still slow and sometimes stopping at idle. While chasing this electrical short of mine this week I put in a new fuse block. This still didn't stop the slow flash at idle. However, when I disconnected the rear brake switch, which is what has been blowing the fuse on the turn signal circuit, my signals now flash as they should.
This just goes to show that the problem is probably resistance to either the supply or the ground. So clean the bulb sockets and check your ground. Of course it could always be too much being drawn on that circuit.
