As I am shifting down prior to a turn or coming to a stop light, my turn signals will usually shut off before I make the turn. Usually this happens around second gear. Once I make the turn the signal will not shut off automatically. Which I believe is the way it should work.

It counts both time and distance traveled before shutting off. If you're not moving, it's not counting time. It gets a signal from a reedswitch in the speedo to determine distance and that the bike is moving.

A poor connection or a malfunctioning reedswitch can cause erratic operation; or its normal operation is conspiring to drive you crazy.

FYI: It's not a car, it will not auto turn off just because you finished turning :)
