    Hey everybody,
I need to put some new blinkers on my 81 seca, none of the original blinker hardware is on the bike. I ordered some blinkers for a maxim and they won't work on my bike (see below). I looks like I need another sort of bolt/nut thing to attach the blinkers. Does anyone know a way I can get these blinkers on or find another turn signal bracket that would work?
    Thanks

    Oldbikebarn.com has them

    Chrome part number: 11-2189
    Black part number: 11-2172

Look at the pictures close and you'll notice that they have the "tube" style mount as opposed to the bolt mount on the one you posted.

Don't chuck the stems you have now, looks like the stalk and lens assembly would be good spares (just gotta swap parts around). And since you live in L.A., odds are good you'll be needing them before too long (lousy cagers try to put me in the wall every time I pass through your neck of the woods. Idiots.).

Thanks, for the spec part numbers hessenroots that should make things easier. Hopefully I won't need to use the ones I have to fix any bang-ups so if anyone needs some blinkers let me know.
    Stay cool.

I checked out the blinkers but, I still need the blinker brackets/posts. I was thinking about something simple like the one below that just holds the blinkers on with a nut and washers. It doesn't have to be a yamaha part just something simple to hold the blinkers on. Thanks for the help. It's been annoying trying to find something so simple.

ohh, gotcha. Your missing the chrome piece with the stem that mounts to the fork then? (highlighted in green in the below pic) I just want to make sure were talking about the same part here. If that is indeed that part your looking for, someone here on the forums may have a pair.

As far as a mount for the blinkers in the pic you posted, I've seen some "universal" fork mounts on ebay. I'll find a link and post it here later.

These might be what your looking for. They clamp around the fork and have a threaded hole to screw the blinker post into.

    http://tinyurl.com/rbane

There are several sizes for sale on ebay, be sure you check your fork size. I'm pretty sure all 80-84 XJs have the same stock fork diamater...but I could be wrong.

Hess, those are the mounts I have available. Would you need them?
PBR, the signals you posted look familiar, I'm not sure what they are.

I'm pretty sure my blinkers will sit nicely with my fairing as it....we'll see come this weekend :D

If it turns out that I do need to lower or raise them, I'll let you know. I am still interested in that set of blinkers we were PMing about.

Thanks for the help hess and robert. Below you can see what I've got right now and how I just need something that bolts on. The front blinkers just go through the hole by the headlight and I'm going to be putting a fairing on so that's why I wanted to get something that sticks out. In the rear you can see the guy before me put on these weird side lights. Underneath the light cover is just a hole through the rear panel. The blinkers I posted before are some old suzuki's. It looks like I just need a blinker set up with 2-wires, right? If so maybe I can just use some other brand as long as the wiring works out. Thanks for the help. I hope I can get this fixed soon because, It feels sketching riding around with these little blinkers.

Anything with 2 wires should be just fine as far as I know.

Those mounts I suggested from ebay should fit the threaded-post style blinkers in your first picture.

Being as your getting a fairing and those mounts are adjustable, I'd say they are your best bet.

Out of curiosity, what fairing are you mounting? I've got the Viper Cafe style in the mail and I can't wait :D

PBR, you can swap in a load of different setups to your bike. If you are of a mind, buzz on down to my place, I've got some Honda and older Yamaha blinkers waiting for you! I'll gladly show you what all you need and where it all goes. PM me if your interested.

Wouldn't mind being a cool Minnesotin right now, its bloody hot here. 30C last night! I prefer the no-damned type myself. They tend to be a little mellower (although, hell-raisers usually live far more interesting lives). I just got to get the time to get out on the road for a long distance haul. Time is a'tickin and I aint getting any younger.

I dunno about seca ... but I put GS500 rear turn signals on my maxim - 85 air cooled ... but water also is same ... looks great and works great ... it even looks right with the boxy tail light.
BTW you'd want to get rear Turn signals froman 89-00 GS500 if you want to do that. On the front a GS is different sorta and will not work due to insufficient thread length.
    Cool.

Heh, it's been between 90-100F for the last two weeks...aside from one day of steady rain :p

Only another month of that before things get back to normal though, thank heavens.

Thanks for the tips guys. That's good to know about the GS500's working. For the front I think I'm going to need to find a few different ones and try them out because, I also have to make sure they go around a fairing.
    See you on the road.

I have some cheap turn signals from a bike store on mine. I'll get pics for you tomorrow in daylight. I think they look way better than the huge stockers.

As long as they're DOT approved I'd love some smaller ones.

Awaiting pics, and perhaps a brand name / part number..... :D

For smaller signals, DOT approval seems to be hard to come by. Good luck!

They are not DOT approved, but from what I've seen, the DOT approval doesn't mean too much. They sometimes have some very strict rules on what gets approved, and sometimes they are ridiculous. Nonetheless, pics when it is daylight out are on the way. I'll even try to get them lit up if I can snap the pic at the right instant.

The only reason I'd worry about the DOT approval is an accident situation.

Minnesota has a "no fault" law wherein, if your struck from behind, your not at fault...unless you have dodgy or otherwise "unacceptable" equipment.

I've seen some diamond and teardrop shaped mini blinkers (w/ LEDs) on the web, they seem pretty popular on street fighters.

I would doubt that a police officer or insurance agent would have any idea whether or not your turn signals were DOT approved, on a 25 year old bike. But here are the pictures:

Oh, and after I put those rears on, I did some mix/match on the front, so my fronts are original. I couldn't find a decent alternative that would fit when I did this, so I left the front be. Don't know the brand, they were generics that the store had for about $10-15.

    Nice, I like those.

Your right about the DOT approved thing, I get overly paranoid about ol' johnny law sometimes. Minneapolis cops don't have the best rep for being polite or leniant.

I'll shop around and see what I can find, thanks for the heads up :)

I like your minies too! They look great on the tail end. I also noticed you have the acid induced corrosion on your rear frame and swing arm as well. Royal pain that is. All because the stupid tube poped out. Took me quite a few hours to blast and clean that up. Hope you get yours under control soon!

What are you talking about? The bike came just how it looks with the rust, so please clarify that.

Ok. See all the rust at on the swing arm and swing arm pivot? Notice the relation to the battery box? It is from the battery acid seeping down onto the paint. After a while the acid eats the paint away and the rust takes off from there. Cause on my bike was the battery overflow tube fell off and the acid went to town on the paint. I was suggesting you tend to it before it gets too much out of hand. I had to pull the tire assembly out of the way to sandblast the area effected and then paint it. Did I explain it sufficiently? Hope so, looks like a nice ride. Let me know if I failed. All the best!

Sounds like good sound advise from Robert about that rust.
I'd suspect if it wasn't the battery acid that possibly that bike has had some bad exposure to salted roads but I think it looks like the batteryn to me.
    Nice bike

No, sounds reasonable. Just had no idea about it. I figured it was just a rusty old bike! Guess maybe I have a winter project ahead of me then. :p
