It's my understanding that wheels that do not have wire spokes are usually tubeless wheels. Wheels with wire spokes usually require tube because the spokes in the rim do not seal very well.

I think it's molded in the cast wheel that it's suitable for either tube or tubeless tires.

Anyway, recently I brought a set of Bridgestone S11 Spitfire for my 550 Seca. I'm sure the wheels are the same for all 550, 650, and 750 except for the difference in the rear hub (gear versus shaft) set up.

Tubeless here too - running a Bridgestone Spitfire on the front, and an Avon AM21 Roadrunner on the rear.

When I had to replace the front, I would have gone with the Avon there as well, but couldn't find a Canadian supplier of them at the time, so went with the closest match I could find.

Sweet little bike, Buzz. Yamaha never sent the 400 Stateside, so it's nice to catch a rare glimpse of such an excellent example.

I just mounted a pair of Pirelli Sport Demons on my Seca 650, and I'm really impressed with them. They are super sticky, wet or dry, with precise turn-in behavio(u)r, and excellent high-speed stability and tracking characteristics. Best bias-ply tires I've run to date.

Early Yamaha cast wheels were "tube type" wheels, if they are suitable for tubeless it will have "tubeless" cast into the wheel somewhere

In saying that lots of people have successfully run tyres tubeless on them, on the RD350LC board this always cause a big debate when the question come up
