Hi everyone! Yet another problem with the Maxim 700 I wanted to throw out there.

I recently flipped the handlebars to go for more of a cafe/clubman look (as I've seen others do on here). I had no problem with the cables and it's looking real nice. However, for whatever reason, I've come across a couple problems now. First, when I start the bike, unless the EC is in the PERFECT spot, the bike either immediately revs super high or will just putter out. I worked with the throttle dial on the bracket of the carbs which seemed to improve this though I'm still wary. The more pressing problem for me now is with the clutch. Now, when I'm letting off the clutch to start moving, it seems like my "friction/tension zone" doesn't start to come into play until the clutch lever is nearly completely out. I can let the clutch out over an inch and there is zero effect. Once the bike is moving, it feels underpowered and if I pull the throttle back quickly it seems like the RPM's jump real high but then they settle down before the bike starts to accelerate. It feels kind of like the clutch is still halfway pulled, if that makes any sense?

I've looked through the cables (assumed that maybe the clutch cable was being pinched) but haven't found anything abnormal. When flipping it I didn't change any settings on the clutch lever itself.

Any recommendations on where to start with this? Thanks everyone!

Because the bars are now in a radically different position, you DO need to change the adjustment at the lever perch for the clutch, and probably at the carb bracket for the choke.

It also sounds like you have introduced too tight of a bend into the clutch cable somewhere.

Thanks for the quick feedback! That's what I needed to hear. Any recommendations on how to adjust the clutch cable? This is something new to me.

    Appreciate it!
