    Ive been lurking around the forums, reading, learning. So from what ive discovered, the priority for fixing a bike that has sat for years is: valves, Clean carb, bench sync, vac sync. While doing a vac sync your bike is supposed to be running.

    Ive got two theoretical and probable situations im a little confused on.

    1. What if bike is not running? Skip the sync and come back to it once it is?

    2. What if the bike is running poorly? Will the vac sync be likely to fix this? Should the bike be running decently to do this?

    The bench sync' should put you in the ball park to get the motor running, then you MUST carry out a running sync', using some form of manometer. Provided you have done all the other things correctly, the running sync' will smooth out the motor.

    Get the Bike to IDLE.
    Before you advance to Fine-Tuning; the Bike should be made to IDLE nicely.
    A ColorTune Plug will set the Idles up in minutes.

    Once you have the Bike running on its own, you can Synchronize the Carbs.

    When you are prepared to do the Vac Sync, ... the job can be done with a Vacuum Gauge and a Restriction Device to reduce the wild fluctuation the Gauge Needle shows unrestricted.

    Start by checking/adjusting your valve clearances before you try to do a running vacuum sync.

    You set float levels and bench sync the carbs before they go back on;

    Once your carbs are clean, your float levels set correctly, valve clearances in spec and the carbs bench sync'ed; it should run well enough to vacuum sync.
