    Hello,
Well I have found that my valve cover gasket has a small seep after long rides and will need to be addressed.
While I am in there I should check my valve clearance and shim accordingly.
My question is this....Do you remove the cover then determine which shims are required and order online or can you get the shims locally?
Is this a task for the first time bike owner or should I try enlist the help from someone who has done this before?
    Thanks
    Brian

You need to check first to see which shims you need then buy what you need, some can probably be moved from one bucket to another. Save some $ and DIY.

When we're expecting a few days cold rainy weather open it up and determine what you need.

    Send order to Chacal

Put in shims and button up.

Should take less than a week. You should have started a few days ago, you'd have been done by the time the weather turned good again.

And replace the "donuts" on the valve cover bolts or the new gasket may leak as well. The donuts do the work of pushing the cover down, the bolts have stop collars on them.

you'll see it's not as difficult as it looks like. once you start doing it everything will become clearer.

Indeed, I plan to open up, measure everything, cover again, puzzle out which can be shuffled and which I need to order and keep riding till they come in.

I have put this off for a while, I have spent all winter working on the bike and think its time to enjoy it for a while.
I switched to 15W30 for the chilly spring but will be changing back to 20W50 when the weather starts to warm up.
That should also help my leak.
I will probably order the parts ie: gasket and doughnuts in a while but I will find a week when I will be traveling for work or something to do the disassembly.
    I just want to ride....
I am currently running a product called Cycle-RX in with my oil and want to finish the 1000mile clean phase before opening to look. I was having a problem with the starter slipping and since I started using this product it has not happened once. Not sure if its the Cycle-RX or soemthing else.
As always you guys are a wealth of information.
