Hey all just a quick question regarding the valves on my 83 xj750. While riding I can usually hear the valves very audibly at low and high speeds as well as idle. My question is how much or how loud is too much coming from the valves clicking? Do your all valves audibly noticeable like mine as well or could mine be out of adjustment? Bike runs fine and starts fine also just FYI. Thanks guys

Don't panic because you hear the Valve Train.
Valves slamming-shut is a good thing.

If you are within Specs; some noise, ... especially when warmed-up is good deal.

    Within-Specs.
Too Tight, ... and you risk Burning a Valve.
The Valve needs to close tightly to shed heat.

    Loose? And you might "Spit-a-shim".

If you don't know your Valve Clearances, ... get the Lid off the Cams and check them. Job One!

Your valve clearances were supposed to have been checked at 3000 miles and then every 5000 miles thereafter.

If you haven't checked them yourself or have put more than 5000 miles on the bike without checking them, then by all means do so right away.

Also, you should be running 20W50 motorcycle-spec oil if you aren't already.

That being said, as Rick pointed out, some valve train noise is normal end even desirable. Quiet valves are usually tight valves; but you should definitely check them if you haven't.
