Which year models of the Venture Royale had transmission issues? I've heard that some of the earlier models had a problem with gears or something, which was corrected in later years. Was the issue resolved by 1988? Saw one for sale along a roadside today. Tempting......

    All the 1200's
AKA first Gen MK I (small saddlebags)
But - you have to ride it and see if it's broken

It was an issue with 2nd gear (Yamaha sure had a problem in this area in the 70s and early 80s).

The problem was supposed to have been corrected during production of the '85 model. Never heard of a problem on 86 and newer.

My 84 Venture Royale 1200 had the transmission problem. It was fixed in all years following. Mine went around 120000 kms to the point where it was unusable for the 15, 20 K before that it was ok so long as you weren't riding 2 up or really twisting the throttle - Rick
