Wanted to pass on my air filter experience. I went to Yamaha to get a air filter, as Fram doesn't make one.

    My choice was a Yamaha for $40, or a K&M for $55.

He looked through a few catalogs and that's what we came up with. I looked at my filter to see if I had a K&N so I could clean it instead of replace.

Mine was a EMGO. He said, lets see if I can get those. Sure enough, they have them for $10 retail.

Ordered an EMGO filter at my local Yamaha Shop. They came in a week later (he said he would call when they came in and I went back 2 1/2 weeks later and they came in but he never called).

I carefully checked the quality and they are very, very good. Lots of glue or whatever sealing the cage from the filter part. Nice rubbery thing to seal against the air box, a very nice filter for an XJ for $10.

If you need a airfilter for an XJ, see if your local motorcycle shop can get an "EMGO" filter, there only $10.

EMGO has been around for ages, and has built a solid reputation for supplying OE-quality generic or "white box" parts to the motorcycling aftermarket. I have an EMGO oil filter on my Norton right now.

That is one heck of a good price, even for EMGO.

fyi, my boxes they came in is printed with very nice print, no white box. I could hardly believe they could make such a nice product, with a nice heavy duty painted box for $10.

That price was in the catalog, maybe the shop in your area will have the same catalog? Since that part is three times higher in your area, does that mean your Yamaha sells a stock air filters for $120 or just three times higher for EMGO?

Don't have any part numbers, he just looked in the EMGO catalog under Yamaha XJ.

Hope I can save other riders some money and give another source for good inexpensive parts.

    Chris.

...unless you want an air filter for your 700/700X. Then you're out of luck.

if memory serves dennis kirk motorcycle supplier carries the very filter. Not sure of the price as the catalog is old. But look them up on line. Cool catalog for your collection as well
