i am toying with the idea of designing a vest pin for this site but need some advise from you people.
i am thinking it should be round (about 1"-25mm).
and i am wondering about copyright as far as using the tuning forks on it without upsetting the biro pilots at yamaha.
any other suggestions would help ie. different shape , bigger, colors.

I'd like a patch instead of a pin. I like the first idea without so much color. Maybe one or two colors would look better. Just an idea.

    Skippy,
How did you keep the calf standing still that long to be able to give it a tatoo? And will it want it removed when it grows up to be a cow? These and other questions come to me everyday, and I WANT SOME ANSWERS!!!

I actually kinda like the 3rd one the best. I think there may be copyright issues with something having that tuning fork logo on it. I would do a black circle instead of blue and the burgundy section in blue. Just a thought.

    thanks guys for your replies.
prideroc, great ideas for patches but maybe a bit to much for the simple vest pin, but keep them coming please.

painterd, i'll have what ever you're having.

lopezfr2, i'm with you about the wings, reminds me to much of (cough) honda as well.

all other comments have been noted, but more ideas please.

Not sure I like the tuning fork logo being so prominent, seeing as that's Yamaha's. Maybe it's time we come up with an XJ Bikes logo and use that on the pin/patch.

    Btw, +1 on the patch.

Oh and patches would be quite cheap to make, 100 patches for $129 shipped. I'd gladly pay $2 or a bit more per patch to make up the cost, support the person who made it the design and most importantly XJ Bikes.

Just one example of what can be made: http://www.custompatches.net/gallery.html

Yeah, I'd leave the Yamaha logo out of it and just stick with the XJBikes logo. I'd do either a pin or a patch, or maybe even both. How about a helmet decal?

Yea, what is the symbol that appears next to xjbikes.com on the tab?

Who has a larger version of it?

#3 with the laurel leaves, but dump the yam logo & the 'bikes' just XJ, gives it a touch of mystery, like, if you have to ask, you're just not one of the lads..

How about a patch the has an outline in black thread of a rider leaning it over in a twisty. The outline of the bike and rider would be basic with only the neccesary details to it wouldnt muddle it up. I think that would give the patch a really cool look like a negative of a photo. Then it could be put on a white background or something similar. Also incorporate XJ in the logo, or Seca, or the like.

    Comments:
The blue "XJ" looks out of place, maybe make it black/other color

Why do the dates go from 81 - 2010? There were XJ's before 81, and very few after 89 (in the states at least, right?) Instead of the dates, maybe we can incorporate something "personal" about XJ Bikes

    overall idea, design, awesome.
What is that red symbol from? What does it mean?

yeah i wasn't sure about the dates, but i wanted something like that so i just threw them in there for an idea. the red symbol is the icon that shows up in the address bar of your web browser when you're on this site or at least my interpretation of it.

THIS is the site that supplies the software used here. I don't know if that dragonfly logo has copyright attached to it or not, so if someone's planning on using that for their patch, it might not hurt to ask first.

how about lopez's idea with the shield but instead of the red logo from the interweb we have just XJ across the centre with the first year above and the last year below, shield in white with black border, red xj in bold red and the yeras of manufacture in blue.

lopez, can you redesign the shield with those above thoughts and repost in this link.

if this works we can take a vote or other suggestions for both a pin and a patch

I really like the one Lopez did. Simple and to the point. Plus if it's patches then maybe we could have a banner or something that we could put our screen name on or something, just another idea to toss out there.

If somebody can tell me the exact years of production for the xj's (which is what i wanted to include in the first place) i'll make a couple different versions of the patch based on everybody's suggestions

Those are quite simple and to the point.

What about we go the same route as the owners association patch:
    XJ
    DATE - DATE
    Bikes

With some image? I like the shield and round patches that were posted.

    Here's a few more ideas

This one is a simple badge somebody requested
    [IMG]

Here's another patch idea with a throwback to the xj bikes logo, which can be personalized with everybody's screen name
    [IMG]

Same one without the xj bikes swooshes, but same idea as the previous one
    [IMG]

Different variation on the first design

Not sure I like having the dates there -- seems to imply too much of an 'ending' than I'd like - almost like a birth/death year, and our bikes ain't dead yet!

Maybe something like "1980 - still counting..."
or "1980 on, and still going!"

Something that gives more of an ongoing feel...

I'd love an XJBIKES or MAXIM Patch for my jacket.
Something like, yellow letters with a red border, Italicied just slightly. Maybe 3 or 4 inches big and like 4-6 across

hey lopez, great work mate but i think we might run into trouble with the copyright on the dragonfly symbol, unless you can get permission from the owner stating that it could only be used for this sites pins and patches.
otherwise it is time for me to get to one of my promotion shops that i deliver to and get some prices on the two items, your top shield and my round one and price them both as a pin and a patch then start getting numbers for a production run.
