With the engine running, and good brushes in the alternator I realise you get 14.5 volts, or there abouts, at the battery. What voltage do you get at the coils? (the low tension side) does the rectifier level everything to 12 volts, or is that not it's job?

the rectifier changes alternating current, ac, to direct current,dc, to charge the battery and run the bike
the voltage regulator sets the voltage
they may or may not be in the same "can"
voltage at the coils? about 12.5 or so
