wanted bobber stlye

    just got this 82 750 maxim 1 st thing no air box on bike so dont run right took me all day to figure on my own. should of came here early. oh yes also tried to run with out super trap muffler on bike installed a strait pipe with turn down.lound an popping threw exhaust ,no run guess from no air box an muffler ..so 5 hrs later put muffler super trap back on an the 4 rubber seals on carbs still no air box at least it idles now an revs up.does these bikes have to have muffler or is any one runnig straght pipes.with no problems

    If you change the muffler you must make sure it does not lean out the carbs so much, that the bike does not run. Depending on what you do, you will need to re-jet the carbs, or buy a exhaust that has more back pressure.
    The engine works party on re-burning the exhaust, if they have no back-pressure there is no exhaust to burn and so the bike is running too lean.

    As for the air box, I am not sure, but I believe with these bikes and experience from mine, the exhaust, fuel, and air systems are very important and delicate, mess one up and nothing will work.
