WD40 gumming up engine internals...

    I never knew WD40 was quite such horrible stuff till Fitz mentioned to me a while back that if used as a bore fog/soak it can gum up the internals once the engine heats up.

    I've never had it happen to me before (I use a supermarket own brand spray instead as it's cheaper & works better, but figured it'd be largely similar. Guess not).

    but anyway, I recently picked up a spare engine, clip ons, footpegs & controls for the NC27, I couldn't resist for £80 and it was only 50 miles or so too... The engine was down on compression on number 2 cyl & was supposed to smoke, but I wanted it for a tuned build anyway so would have been stripping it whatever state it was in.

    So, tonight I tore into it expecting to find a burnt valve or knackered pistons, only to find all the rings stuck in their grooves by some weird brown tarry gunk. The engine's in top notch condition, bores like new and all!

    Long live WD40..... Just Don't put it down your bores if you don't fancy pulling the top end!!!!! 8) :lol:
