Sooo, the rear wheels are mounted that far out so that when the axle breaks the wheel won't catch the rider in the back of the head on the way by?

    Yes I said "when."

It just seems somehow very unstable for something that is as powerful as that bike is to have a rigid rear end like that... Cornering must be a (insert favorite explitive here)

Yeah, that axle does look a bit ummm, what's the word? :?

    "thin"?

Must be a joy to ride... And if the axle doesn't get ya the frame will when the swingarm pivots rip out 8O

The axle is probably not too thin. It appears to be an ATV axle. The problem is no differential. It will fight on turns (dry pavement) and could well break from cornering.

Perhaps you're supposed to carry a jug of water to wet the rear tires to assist turning?

I've seen racing ATVs snap rear axles in the heat of battle, and they only run souped-up versions of the motors that came in them.

Plus I highly doubt there are that many 500lb ATVs out there.

You do have to ride it two-up. The passenger's job is to carry the water jugs and douse the inside tire just prior to entering a turn, and keep it wet past the apex.

It's the only explanation that makes sense.

No..... You just have to ride it hard enough that you always lift the inside wheel on cornering!

I don't think you could get it registered for street use with a solid axle. Most states require a diff on drive axles to be street legal, how many street legal trikes do you see with solid axles?.........None..
