Welp! I just got an 83 Seca 750 Tonight!

    It is in great shape although not running.

    It needs new tires (checked out the Kenda Challengers) and I know 120/90/18 for the rear but don't know what to run on the front size wise.

    I would also like to get a list of things that I should do before starting the bike for the first time in several years. (I swore I saw a list on here!)

    The tank was empty though smelled a bit like old gas (probably normal). I hope the carbs are nice and dry because in 2004 the PO had them rebuilt and I would hate to go through them again.

    It has the front faring (full) and I can't wait to get rid of it! I am located in San Diego if anyone wants it once I get it off. I will sell it for $75.

    Anywho, great community you have here. Lots of great information.

    LOVE my 750! 1st thing, get yourself a manual if you don't have one. Then, check your rear brake shoes for delamination. Do a "search" for that list...

    Hey Skillet! I will be checking out the drums as advised. They seem to be fine thus far, but it couldn't hurt to look.

    So should I be cool with dumping the fluids and replacing them with fresh? I have a good feeling it should fire right up. Maybe some Seafoam? Marvel Mystery oil?

    The brakes are a must-do because of delamination, which doesn't affect the feel of the brakes until it's too late.

    Essentially, if they've become delaminated they can seize your rear wheel while you're riding. Might not be a massive issue at 15mph, but it sure will be at 70mph. Very easy to do, and Chacal sells the shoe's for ~$35.

    Also, the carbs are fun! They were also pretty easy to do on my bike, which is a 550. Gave a nice cleaning, etc...

    Congrats on the bike, and enjoy! I think you'll find this useful more than useful.

    That is a great price. What is funny is that this community is like the one for my old bike: YZF600R. Tons of activity and support.

    No doubt, I will be asking you guys for help along the way. I know the shoes are super important.

    I am gonna pick up a Walmart battery tonight and some oil. Should be fun!

    I went to Walmart for battery and oil, too. Prices are good.

    I'd suggest the Bridgestone Spitfire S11 tires over the Kenda's. I've heard poor things about the Kendas, and great things about the S11 (I just picked up a pair!).

    They're more expensive, but tires probably aren't the area to cheap out on :)

    True enough. I saw the Dunlop D404s were pretty inexpensive too. I will look into the Bridgestones too.

    AFTER looking at rear shoes, replacing tires and changing liquids is a good start. If it's running well enough not to clean carbs, GREAT. Before you do clean your carbs, check valve clearances and replace shims if needed...

    If you still have the original fuse box, you should really replace it with blade type fusebox. Also, add a fuel filter.

    You should go though and check every nut and bolt is tight and make sure all cotter pins are in place. You never know what the previous owner may have missed.

    Speaking of this, the fuse box terminals are all corroded and nasty. One of the terminals on the 30 amp fuse broke anyway so that will definitely be replaced.

    Well I know for a sure that they electrical is all jacked up on the front of the bike. So yeah, I will be checking everything.

    The PO had received the bike after someone tried to get the faring kit installed. They got a decent ways through it and then just stopped on the wiring. So I ripped out a bunch of that crap. Good news is that it seemed that they created a harness for extensions. So when I pulled the "makeshift" harness out, most of the terminals had matching female ends.

    This is going to be a WIP. I wish I paid about $100 less for the bike. But, it will be worth it in the end.

    I just checked out those Bridgestones and they look good for the money. I need to read up on the bias ply vs radial. Though, it looks like everything for our size is bias ply. Man these older bikes are their own deal for sure.

    Just joking really, but you want to go over everything with a fine tooth comb because it's your health on the line. These guys know their stuff and don't worry about questions that mite seem stupid, if you have questions feel free to ask.
