Just looking for some input on brake pads. My bike is in need of new pads. What brand are you guys running and what are your opinions on them.

    EBC's with a new EBC floating rotor on one bike;

(New) OEM Yamaha with a stock (drilled) Yamaha rotor on the other.

No complaints in regard to either; the EBC brake does produce more "stoppage" for less lever effort but it may be a combination of pads and rotor.

Freshly rebuilt braking systems with stainless lines on both.

I used EBC organic pads from Chac and fllowed the burn in procedure -- other than a heck of a lot of dust 1st 100 miles (probably typical of all organic brakes anyway) -- Like 'em alot.

Used cheapos from mac cycles on the front and they are noisy, not happy with them, even chamfered the leading edges and it did not help much, and they will be replaced by ebc. Put ebc on the back and they have been well worth the money. Front end rebuilt comletelywith stainless lines...

    Braking is serious business:
I replace the Brakes every-other Season.

    I use Ferodo Pads up-front.

EBC Brake Shoes on the rear.

If by "cheaper" you mean are they as good of quality as EBC, they are most definitely not.

But they are still a decent brake.

Just got done with the brakes on my 650R:

    Complete rebuild with stainless lines
    EBC pads for the fronts
    EMGO shoes for the rear

IMHO the EBC pads are the better choice for the front

    Vesrah, organics, very happy.

Have organic EBC's on my GL1000, happy with them too. Bought them all off ebay.

Rotors don't get rusty sitting all winter either.

EMGO is a long-time provider of "white box" or "generic" "pattern parts" to the motorcycle industry. Thier stuff does NOT meet or exceed OEM, it does work but not as good as premium parts.

The stock Yamaha brakes are very good to begin with, especially with stainless lines. However--

EBC does brakes. http://www.ebcbrakes.com/motorcycle_brake/index.shtml And does them well; their floating-disc replacement rotors for our older bikes are FAR superior to what came on them.

Ferodo does brakes, does them well and has for nearly 100 years.

Same for Brembo. My Norton came with a Lockheed brake on it. (Yes, that Lockheed.)

My point is, you get what you pay for. It's no different than buying brake pads for your cage at the auto parts-- they generally have a "standard replacement" or economy (cheap) set, a mid-priced/OE set, or "lifetime guaranteed" premium pads, for usually around 3X what the cheap ones cost.

You pays your money and you takes your choice. EBC is an improvement over stock; EMGO is like the "standard" replacement parts.

Hence why I buy Galfer green for my Ducati and Ferodo CP211 on my BMW, brake life doesn't concern me, brake performance when I need it does

When my XJ gets rebuilt it will use one of the two above options
