Ok so I want to sell my 750 and get an XJ900. How would I determine asking price?

I plan to recover the seat and paint the tins and do a round headlight but keep the atari.

I just did pads, rebuilt M/C, rebuilt calipers, changed the oil/filter and cleaned the carbs.

Bike fires right up hot or cold, runs super nice. Good tires and new battery. Current CALIFORNIA registration.

I'm thinking $1300-1500 because its truly "Turn Key" ready to buy and ride...

Thoughts?? About how much are the earlier XJ900s going for?

    Thanks,
    Jay

Turnkey or not, the more changes you make the lower the value goes. The bike has only 4137 miles; in 100% all-there condition, it could be worth quite a bit. As soon as you start changing, painting, modding-- even though you (and many others I'm sure) see these things as improvements, they're not price-improvers.

The closer it is to bone-stock with all that work having been done, the more it'll be worth.

It needs to be painted, the paint is checked up and really ugly. It looks like the bike was left outside for.a year or 2 at some point so even tho its real low miles its cosmetically challenged....

I suppose i could just leave it alone and just repaint the tank. I have all the stock parts but some stuff isnt installed (front blinkers, aux light, lockup chain, etc.)

Your bike, like any other commodity, is worth EXACTLY what someone is willing to pay for it.

If you are trying to determine what this price might be look in the local paper, research completed ebay auctions (this is a good source if you can find sales in your local area as you will know the actual selling price), and finally Craigslist. 2 out of 3 will at least give you an idea of the price to ask for it. The price needs to be interesting for your prospective buyers but should still leave you a little negotiation room.

You want to move quickly on the sale of your bike and drag your feet a little n the purchase of your replacement. The price is higher now because it is riding season. Motorcycles tend to get a little cheaper towards Christmas!

    Good luck,

    Loren

A quick note re: XJ900s-- For the US Market, there's no "early" or "later" XJ900. The 900 was a one-year bike here ('83) just like the 650 Seca ('82.)
