I have an 83 XJ750K Maxim (I think). I bought this brand new from the dealer and I'm the original owner. The reason I ask what do I have is because the exploded pictures of the master cylinder show the brake line going into the side of the cylinder/reservior and mine goes into the end like that of an XJ650K. I bought a rebuild kit based on an XJ750K and now don't know if what I have is a 650 or 750 cylinder and if the kit will work. Has anyone come across this?
    Thanks
    Joe :?

I didn't see any part numbers but here's the picture. Also, do you how to remove the electrical cable hanging from the MS? It doesn't have a clip that I can find or see through the hole in the bottom.

The pix in the service manuals and parts diagrams are wrong.

1982 and 1983 XJ750 Maxim master cylinders (which are "the same but different") have the brake hose attachment point facing "inwards", towards the centerline of the bike.

The brake lever switch has a tiny (1mm) access hole on the FRONT side of its hole in the m/c body, and you must stick the tip of a pen, tiny screwdriver or punch point, etc. into that hole and press inwards on a plastic "retaining tooth" that is part of the switch....while pushing in gently, pull out on the switch (wires) and the switch will release from the m/c housing.

Chacal, not only do you sell great reliable parts at very affordable prices and your shipping / delivery is very quick (I received my parts in 2 days) your knowledge of the bike is second to none, especially since the parts books aren't always right. When I get ready to do my next project your the first one I'll go to. Projects underway fork seals and complete master cylinder / caliper rebuild.

Jag, thanks for the kind words!

Actually, if you have a 1983 XJ750 Service Manual (but not the 1982 version!), both a side-exit and a forward-exit master cylinder are pictured......illustration 5-11 shows the incorrect forward-fluid-exit master cylinder (probably copied from another model's diagram), while illustration 5-15 just 2 pages over shows the correct side-fluid-exit master cylinder.

In fact, illustration 5-15 is the only image I can find in ANY manual or parts books for the XJ750 Maxims that actually shows the correct side-exit master cylinder. All books, both OEM and aftermarket (Haynes) show the incorrect (but much more commonly used----on all other XJ models) forward-exit master cylinder for the XJ750 Maxim's, which, to the best of my experience, NEVER USED THEM!
