Got the angle grinder out a while back and started cutting things off the rear end. I figured since I was rebuilding my master cylinder and removing the atari I would try my hand at shortening up the rear end. What say you XJ'ers?

I really like that. The tail light is tucked neatly in there.

I would say "it's gonna get wet."

    Must never rain in Utah.

I would fit some sort of fender, even if it's the black plastic "shorty" from a 550 Seca; to at least prevent the spiffy new taillight from getting soaked the first time you ride thru a puddle.

I agree it's "cleaner" but you've given up some important functionality.

Fitz, agreed, after removing the stock fender I thought the same thing. The light is a trailer light and is sealed to prevent water getting into the housing itself. We'll see how dirty/wet the rear end gets.

Anyone else shortened up ther rear ends in a similar way?

Not fond of it myself. I think the problem is in the big his/hers seat. That might look cool with a differnt seat treatment though.

I don't know......even if you mounted the licence plate horizontally so that it followed the line of the rear tire......might help with the wheel spray a bit. Also, not sure what your state laws are for mounting a plate vertical, some are ok with it, others hand out fines.
    Just sayin'.
