So I got a few things for xmas like a small socket set, waterproof matches etc - got me thinking about upgrading / redoing my on-the-bike toolkit / survival kit. What's in yours?

I keep my registration in an inside pocket. The tire gauge and kickstand plate are in another pocket. That's the only kit I have with me. But, if I ride to PA, or some other LONG ride, I take my whole tool roll.... Which has EVERYTHING in it

The XJ9 still has the OEM toolkit, which came as a surprise - mostly long gone on previous purchases, which prompted me to adopt a general survival kit approach to bike toolrolls. If I were to break down on the GSs for example, I've got just about every spanner, box spanner, pliers, screwdriver, bits and bobs of wire, tape and spare levers I'd need to get going again.
Oh, and one of these will be on every bike from now on...

Oh I have a bunch of the original kit stuff, too, but they're really not that high of a quality tool

I carry toilet paper on the bike and in my riding jacket. You never want to be caught short!

It was exactly that principle that prompted the PO of my van to stash a condom under the steering wheel boss. Just glad it was a new one.

I always stash a ski-mask and random blue-prints to a government building in any car I sell - makes me feel better when they haggle me out of money.

That's a great kit! I broke a clutch cable this summer, made it to a friends without stopping and tied a nut on the cable to hook it back to the lever and made it home. Woulda been a different story had I needed to stop. Was an interesting ride to his house to say the least.

One listmember broke a clutch cable in PA , not to long after leaving a carburetor clinic there, and clamped a pair of vise grips onto it and rode the rest of the way back to Connecticut that way......

Nice. You do what you need to get home. I should think about adding a small pair of vice grips to the bag. I have a buddy who lost a shifter peg and just clamped a pair on there and used that.

oem toolkit is cheap, but you can do most basic maintenance with it.

If I'm more than an hour from home I carry a spare TCI. It's the only thing that can't be easily fixed or bypassed (barring a blown engine) when away from home.
