When you changed my chain I removed the sprocket side cover!

    I know I did wrong here by spraying carb cleaner around the front sprocket while replacing the chain. I now am experiencing a clutch powerband effect and read that the seal around the shifter arm needs to be replaced when removing the cover because if there were seals exposed we're talkin possible damage.. Looks like it's time to get busy and more order some parts again from Chacal. Any help appreciated.

    Umm, no. You're jumping to an unfounded conclusion, the two aren't related.

    There's no express need to replace any seal when removing the front sprocket cover, and I doubt you damaged the seal with carb cleaner.

    Replace the seal on the shifter arm if it's leaking. If it's not leaking, leave it alone until it does. It has nothing to do with your "clutch/powerband effect."

    Your 30 year old clutch is starting to slip and needs to be rebuilt. Very common once you start trying to ride the bike after it's sat for as long as they all have. Clutch friction plates are made up of a collection of tiny brake pads; which have been half soaking in ancient oil while the other half dried out and petrified. They really shouldn't be expected to perform any better than 30-year old brake pads.

    Might want to also consider new bolts/washers and a new clutch cable.
