I dropped my 85 XJ700 Maxim early last year at about 2MPH and put a slight kink in the left side of the handlebar. Although I can barely tell, they're also rusted up a bit and I would like to change it out for a new unit.

Anyone have good recommendations for where to get a nice (and cheap) stock style replacement?

Sure. If they're 7/8" tubular, just about anywhere, generally under $50. BikeMaster makes an extensive line of 7/8 bars, in about every shape and style you can imagine, including some that are relatively close to your originals. Here's a link that has a pic of a few of them; NOT a recommended source, just the quickest pic I could find. http://www.amazon.com/BikeMaster-DRAG-B ... B000WJ7RCI

And they're far from the only manufacturer.

I believe the handlebars are stock since I've owned the bike since around 92 or so and the handlebar swiches/etc seem to be stock. Sorry for sounding so noob, but is stock 7/8?

I appreciate the link but was hoping for some guidance also. I would like to keep it as close to stock (since I like the stock bars) and the ones pictured don't "seem" to match well. Anyone know of a knockoff of the factory bars?

Again, thank you for your suggestion.

"Standard" tubular handlebars are 7/8" yes.

Here are the dimensions for your original bars (from XJ4Ever's catalog:)

    1985-6 XJ700 models:
    overall width = 26"
rise at grip ends = 3"
pullback at grip ends = 5-1/2"

Which will help you locate a "close" aftermarket solution, OR--

Chacal does carry the original bars too: HCP4415 OEM original HANDLEBARS, bright chrome plated, fits all XJ700 models. $77.95

The "EM" part numbers are a dead giveaway; those are EMGO handlebars, also widely available here in the States.
