While I love my Maxim X, I really miss my SECA.

    It just isn't running well.

major air leaks somewhere. Lean beyond lean. :(

Anyone just not have the time to make repairs??

The Maxim is a little too small for me to ride comfortably, since I'm 6'3".
Long trips really take a toll on my body.

The SECA feels perfect to me.......just gotta get it going.
Wish I knew how to refinish the motor parts and really make it look good.

Go back through the "build" posts, lots of different ways to do what you're wondering about...

My 83 650 maxim is perfectly comfortable.....I'm 6' 2.5". Here's what I did to make it comfy....I have an 81 650 maxim seat which has a deeper scoop to it, as well as footrestst on the engine guards. The guards are from an 85 virago, and the footpegs stick out from the sides of them. The handlebars are rotated just bit to allow for a longer reach. I also have a 750 tank on the bike for a greater fuel capacity. I've ridden from upstate NY to Poconos several times, and have been plenty comfortable. Yeah, need to get off a stretch when I get gas, but who doesn't.

See the pics in my gallery.

Which parts? My 650 Seca is mad grubby but the black lower cases actually look mostly OK, the only thing that really looks like crap is the HEAD. The black is just about perfectly 60% flaked off; I've been toying with soda blasting the head clean rather than trying to keep black paint on it.

This is NOT my bike; but it looks like somebody did that here:

Good call. It does seem like a combination of a smaller type seat and having my cramped legs.

So modding those two would make a huge difference......

    Are seats easily interchangeable??

Mine looks like it's sat under a car port for 15-20 years.

Just dull all around.....but yeah, the paint is really flaked off the head. So probably similar.

I just replaced my throttle shaft seals.......chasing that lean dragon....

It dawned on me that, the floats were installed upside down from the previous owner!

The flat side of the floats have always faced the top of the carbs.

I was just browsing a few old threads, saw some pictures and it HIT ME!

I hadn't really done a fluid level check yet.....that was my next step....so I probably would have caught it either way.

....but I wonder if this is why the bike has been running really lean? Or at least a large contributing factor?

    DOH!
