I went to visit our very own Donhoe from the boards today to pick up my colortune that he borrowed. On my way home, I met a state trooper. Lights came on, and I glanced down at the speedo. 74!

Got off with a warning and had a nice quick chat about antique (as the trooper put it) motorcycles. Turns out he rides a 1984! He didn't specify what kind, but we discussed sourcing parts for our older bikes. He was a vary nice guy.

It's easy to get moving kinda fast without really knowing it if your not paying attention. I'm glad you didn't get a ticket.

Most Troopers I've met are fairly decent people. They're looking for more important things for the most part like drunks or drugs.

Not related to the trooper thing, but this weekend we had to jet down to Peoria. Somewhere near Lexington, IL I came up on a bike and from the rear end, I could tell it was an '80 era beastie - figured out it was a Honda when I passed him. We got off I-55 in Lex for gas and a minute or two later the Honda rolled in. I chatted with the guy for a bit as I waited for my wife to run the baby under the blow dryer in the bathroom (don't ask). Was an '84 Nighthawk 750 in pretty good shape. I forgot to ask the mileage, but it looked well-ridden and well-loved.

You know I was thinking on todays cruise:

I've never seen a motorcycle wreck (ok saw the traffic jam from one once).

I've seen lots of car wrecks.

As I'm out riding in the nice weather I'm seeing more motorcycles pulled over by Smokey than cages. Way more than our fair share.

I wonder, how many of our brothers are out there inviting disaster?

I've seen this too... mainly on Greenfield after 10pm, when all Oak Park does I think is run radar.

But most of those guys are on crotch rockets, which I think can provide a little too much temptation to do the dumb stuff.

Maybe it's just me, everyone I talked to who rode for a year or so, and dumped there bike, were guys who had crotch rockets, did something stupid on them, dumped it then got scared of the bike.

Of course, the bike is only as dangerous as the rider.

Piersol, that trooper did you a favor. There isn't anything more important than getting home in one piece. I'm very glad to hear he was a human being. Now that the requisit preaching is done, been in your shoes but didn't come off as clean. $38 ticket and traffic school.
