I know it is a stupid question, but being a newbie I was wondering if the lights will still work even though the battery is dead? My answer would be no, but I just wanted to make sure.

Will your house lights come on without hydro? ;)

In all seriousness tho, if you could get it to bump start somehow without a battery, and hold it at 4k rpm, i guess theoretically it would generate what it needed... for a little while at least.

i think you need a magneto type ignition to bump start without a battery.

& you need 12 volt DC power to the TCI.

Your battery can be low enough to not turn over the eingine but the lights will still come on, though they will be dimmer.

I used to bump start my bike all the time because the battery was dead and the lights worked just fine with the current supplied by the engine.

    The quick answer is YES...

To me a dead battery is a battery that can longer perform it's main duty, in this case turn over the engine to get it started.

You will need to bring it to an automotive shop and they will test the voltage and the amperage.

You need high amps to turn over the engine, low amps for the lights and gauges.

They could but very dimly. As Wizard pointed out, you have to have some current to run the TCI. With a dead battery, you are dead in the water. Push starting is a very big maybe and you run the risk of melting wires with the alternator and voltage regulator trying to pump max current back to the dead battery while the bike is acting as a load. A bad scene that I wouldn't want to be involved in. Get the battery recharged before you try to fire up as Rookie mentioned.
