I just installed a new starter and starter relay on my on 1981 xv750 but I have a 920 motor and I wasn't paying attention to how the relay was wired to the battery or the starter can anyone tell me does the red and white go to the positive battery terminal wire hanging off and the blue and white side go to the starter or vise versa. I'm new to working on bikes and this is my first bike I only got it maybe a lil less than a month ago

not exactly, the red/white wire goes to the ignition fuse, so it is only live when the ignition is switched on , (otherwise someone could press the starter whilst it is parked)
the blue/ white wire earths the starter relay through the starter switch, also via the tci

The white plug goes to its mate on the wiring harness.
The Posttive battery terminal is wired to one of the big posts, and the other post gets hooked to the positive lead to the starter. On your bike both will be black, and there is no diference between the 750 and 920 in the starter relay wiring (or the relay itself for that matter).
