    Heya,

I've been investigating my loom (it has been horribly disfigured by P.O.)
and I'm finding some things confusing.

Why is there a reed switch in the console / what is the magnetic object that closes the switch?

Why is there a magnet on top of the ignition thing? (which is pushed out when the key is turned)

PO got rid of the kickstand switch, I cbf putting it back, but now that I'm finding the most efficient way to bridge it, I'm seeing that all the kickstand relay wires connect elsewhere in a way that should allow me to get rid of the kickstand relay too..
but I don't know what the relay does or what's inside. any help?

Also, I can see that the voltmeter has two pins,
Pin 1 connects to the highbeam indicator and the indicator indicators.
Pin 2 connects to the neutral indicator..
So if none of these items are in use.. does that mean the voltmeter shows 0? That isn't my recollection (tho its been a while since I rode this bike)

Aaaand, so my new lx/horn controls switch has the high beam IN the controls.. will that mess with the voltmeter?

Just figured out what a relay does.
so.. re: kickstand, lets say I chop out the kickstand switch and associated wires..
I think whatI'm seeing, is that the kickstand relay is still useful if I want to hold the clutch in to start the bike because it uses the same relay?

Also, forgot to mention that the old indicator switch setup had two functions: 1 - turn on the indicator light (L or R) and also, close another switch that goes to the turn signal relay.

My new controls dont have that secondary switch, so between the reed switch and the missing secondary indicator switch, does that make the turn signal relay and cancellign unit defunct?
I'm not seeing a flasher unit on the diagram tho..

    so confused

    Sorry Stu,

Signature shoudl have had all that ( I did click add signature)

I've learnt a thing or two since asking (spent all day searching)

1 - speedo has the magnet that completes the reed switch
    - its a distance counter

2 - magnet on ignition... stil dunno

3 - need kickstand relay for the clutch thingy

    4 - voltmeter is still a mystery

5 - re secondary switch, seeing as I have no reed switch, theres no point having the cancelling unit, so new question,
Can I just unplug the cancelling unit?

1 - it also alerts the turn signal auto-cancelling unit that the bike is in motion.

2 - the thing that pops out when you turn the key to "lock" isn't a magnet, it's the steering lock.

3 - the clutch switch is to allow the bike to be started in gear as long as the sidestand is up.

4 - the voltmeter is just picking up a voltage reading from the most convenient location; the main power to the cluster.

5 - sure. But don't destroy or lose it, they're valuable.

If I haven't done it already, PM me with your email address and I'll send you the wiring and circuit diagrams (for the USA-market 550 Seca.)

    Cheers All,

I don't need a wiring diagram, theres one at the back of my clymer and Its easy to find online.
I had really hard time reading it, so I drew a new one. (specific to my bike tho)

Theres no cancelling unit, the high beam indicator is already in the hand control, theres no kick switch (po already took care of that), theres in-line fuses instead of a fusebox, ignition is next to the battery now.

I've tried to arrange the parts according to location, faint blue lines indicate the four segments, i.e, left bifurcation, right bifurcation, under the tank and under the seat.

I cant tell you what a headfuck this was.

Interesting bits, the original diagram missed some connections:
voltmeter doesn't float aimlessly between lights, it should connect to both the black and the brown wires on the fuel gauge (and thus the rest of the bike).

likewise, the black from the indicators can't just attach to the reed switch, it also has to connect to the main black.

The high beam led on the turn signal controls probably connects to black, I don't know why they didn't do it inside the casing.
