The first of my turbo's is in back in such a shape that i'd though i'd see if she'd fire,
no such luck, new fuel new plugs, pump's working fine, has compression,

tried unsuccessfully to get it to fire up, all it did was start to leak petrol from the join between the collector and turbo?

i presumed it was flooded, so have left it for now,

couple of things, neutral light doesn't show up with bike out of gear,

and theres a blue wire with an open blade just under the side stand and i can't remember where it came from, or what its for

i'm guessing bad coils or stuffed ignitor?

!st time attempting to start in 17yrs, so going to be fun

Have you cleaned out the carbs yet?
If its been 17 years since a carb cleaning you might never get in running unless you break down and do so.

This is should get you going on the carbs.

Several things. Check for rear brake de-lamination and tires before getting it out on the road or it could be your last ride. Everything that has to do with stopping should be replaced or take your chances.

Carbs have been cleaned, brakes have been changed for EBC's and braided hoses in front, though at this rate brakes would be least of my worries

may be that the neutral sensor is malfunctioning and your bike thinks it is in gear.

How about: That wire is from the sidestand switch, so it thinks the sidestand is down? And therefore, has shut down the ignition, as it's designed to do...

The connecting block from the sidestand switch is connected, just this one loose one that comes from the same wiring as the pickups

If it was the sidestand surely wouldn't turn over at all?

Neutral switch might be worth a look, but as i say wouldn't starter cut out as well?
