I got myself two free xj 550 bikes, and turning one into a hardtail bobber.

The first update: got it running, just after cleaning the carb's. :D

Finally we getting the're....did a lot of work at the bike.
    Made Forward controls
Fixed a rear fender (from a old scrap Harley)
    Rebuild the front brakes
    Moved the licence plate
    And much more....

Only one problem..it was running before the rebuild but now i have no spark anymore. I think the coils are the problem...but will fix it next week!

I like were that's going. I'm building a poor man bobber my self from a xj550. what did you end up doing with your battery and electrical components? I was thinking about putting it in a military ammo box and mounting it on the side of the bike.

Also I wanted to put forward controls on the bike, did you buy the brake extenders or did you fab them?

I fab al items on the bike myself, the complete forward control, made my own airfilter pipes, shortened the dempers (sounds great!) total cost of the bike (got two bikes for free) i'm from Europe: 150 euro! And i got myself a driving Bobber!

Yes it's finished, gonna repaint the gastank with flakes, need a new front tire and that's it!

Made (weld) a box fitted underneath the solo seat, it's easy to remove.

Did you make the forward controls to bolt on, or did you weld them to the bike? If the former, would you (or anyone else) be interested in making an additional set of the forward controls? I also have a 550 (european model like yours), but no access to a machine shop or any friends with knowledge or tools. If so, how much would you want incl.shipping to Sweden? I can't afford the professional kits and can't weld, so bolt-on would be the only way to go.

I made them bold on. I used two xj bikes and parts from it to make it work.

Sorry i don't have the time to make more sets, have to many project (vw beetle 1966, vw polo coach 1989 both ratlook).

It is quit easy tot make, i used old parts but you can buy stuff to make a links set...but the're is always a machine shop nearby wo will and can drill holes or weld parts i think?

How did you go about getting rid of the rear shocks and putting the downtubes in place?
